Mount Bayaquitos rises to about 316 meters above see
level and still home to numerous flora and fauna. Maulawin and Antipolo trees are still very
much present in the area. With its rich wildlife and thick foliage just few
minutes away from Nagcarlan town center, the place offers an ideal respite to
commune with nature.
Not much people frequented the vicinity. Local people enjoy
the place’s tranquility and contented of its unassuming characteristic to best
keep the area in seclusion.
A pleasant walk around will tender enjoyable experience
as bird and butterfly watching. Beautiful Maria Cafras and Philippine
Hawk-Eagles can be easily spotted in the surrounding areas.
Weekend hikers & bikers have not discovered the environ
yet. It has exciting trails which features cave, springs and views of beautiful
landscapes with interesting switchbacks to concrete pavements leading to the
town’s major public thoroughfares. An ideal
venue for adventure races to practice one’s navigational skills and carry out
escape from dense isolation.
Mount Bayaquitos is located in a barangay of the same
name, Bayaquitos. Not much has been said
or written about Bayaquitos in the past except for its legend:

Balayong at Tipacan
“Nang
pinaghiwa-hiwalay ng mananakop na Kastila ang grupo ng mga katutubong
naninirahan sa lugar, isang grupo ang napunta sa lugar na kahuyan at isa naman
sa madamong bahagi na maraming halamang sampinit. Maging ang mga dayuhan ay wiling-wili sa
pangunguha ng mga bunga ng sampinit na tiwawag nilang “BAYA” o berry sa wikang
Ingles. Upang madaling matandaan ang
pangalan ng lugar, binansagan nila ang lugar sa pangalang “Bayaquitos” hango sa
mga mumunting bunga na nauna na nilang tinaguriang “baya””.
