Mount Atimla of Nagcarlan

Evelia’s Peak

It was the year 2005 when I first had an impulse on hiking the top of Mt. Atimla.  The idea that time was kind of daunting since there was no path towards the mountain’s crown.  Rocky and sandy, the area appeared inadequate in producing profitable agricultural harvests.   Because of that, nobody of its local folks seemed to be interested going to its tip.

Yearning for a little sense of adventure, I first aimed on taking the Eastern peak.    Realizing upon finally setting my foot on its Eastern summit, one sunny 27th day of March, I knew then it will be a prologue to more interesting exploration.  I called the Eastern Summit “Evelia’s Peak” but since then, I have not returned to the place.

Let’s trace back the trail to Evelia’s Peak and view our beautiful town, Nagcarlan from there.

With an advocacy group we call AHON. I organized climbs to further explore the crown and glory of Mt. Atimla. 2016 was the golden year of Mt. Atimla exploration.

TRAILS TO THE WESTERN SUMMIT

"Mag-asawang Bato"

AHON’s Mt. Atimla trail to summit was finally introduced to Pilipinas Sierra Outdoor Club on June 24-25, 2017.  It was recommended to be the club’s training climb venue due to its unique trail characteristics.  Just before the climb proper, several barangay (Sabang) officials warmly welcomed and assisted them to register at the barangay logbook.

After the climb, we welcomed and casually asked them how the experience was? Their sweet smiles and some minor bruises obviously showed their glorious delight on the climb they just had.

At a nearby resort, AHON prepared some Nagcarlan delicacies for the group to try and enjoy.  We had dinner together and chat all the way until almost midnight.

The group left for Manila the next morning.  The compliments we had for AHON’s hospitality were just as astounding to hear coming from fellow outdoor enthusiasts as the Pilipinas Sierras.

The trail towards “Mag-asawang bato” Mt. Atimla Western Summit is now open.

AHON’s next goal is to establish an ideal campsite near the summit.

Talon "Itikan" in Nagcarlan

"Itikan" Falls upper level
Untouched and the bewildering splendor of “Itikan” Falls

AHON tayo sa Nagcarlan!
(Let’s climb in Nagcarlan!)

Mistiko ngunit buhay.  Sa akin………………marilag kang tunay!

Talon "Itikan" a mystical and priceless experience.

AHoN tayo sa Nagcarlan!!!

Explore: Labuyo Twin Peaks

Situated at the heart of Mt. Nagcarlan-Mt. Mabilog-Mt. Atimla complex, Labuyo Twin Peaks has never been explored for mountaineering or hiking activity.  Its thick vegetation setting somehow hold back even local people to rove and check its hinterland.

Because of its opaque flora, the vicinity of LabuyoTwin Peaks  is home to numerous wildlife as monkeys and junglefowls.  Red junglefowls dwell  in the area. “Labuyo” as what locals call junglefowls are flighty and robust. Labuyos’ characteristics make it difficult for anyone to catch them.  The flanks of the twin peaks are their perfect dwelling place.

While densed vegetation fill its slopes, beautiful “talahib” grasses astoundingly populate the entire  peaks. The area is a perfect venue for overnight camping with a 360 degrees view of San Pablo 7 Lakes and brilliant backdrops of Mt. Atimla, Mt. Nagcarlan, Mt. Mabilog, Mt. San Cristobal and the majestic Mt. Banahaw.

Standing about 549 masl, Labuyo Twin Peaks is a great sunset viewing place and superb cityscape watching site.  Its spotless greenery will truly satisfy any outdoorsman’s delight with a closer to nature feeling of sobriety and freedom.  Be the first ones to scale the area. Explore Labuyo twin peaks.
